Research Statement
My research interests lie within a freshwater ecology framework. Although fisheries is a major component of my research, I am interested in all biotic and abiotic interactions in aquatic systems, especially pertaining to large river ecology. I have a background in population and hybrid genetic methods and combine those tools with more traditional fisheries and ecological techniques to answer questions pertaining to invasive species management, feeding ecology of fishes, fish movement, and life history dynamics of fishes. Basic and applied techniques to understand and mitigate the effects of Asian carp in the Mississippi River Basin have been of particular interest (i.e., piscivory by native fishes, hybrid marker development and testing, age and growth of young of year and adult fishes, advanced GPS telemetry, contracted harvest, acoustic telemetry, reproductive ecology).
